The winner of the cardboard "canoe" race struts her stuff at the 2025 WCHA Assembly paddle-by.

Each kid gets three pieces of cardboard and a roll of duct tape to build a canoe, which they then race against each other from the dock, around a buoy and back to the dock. (@Conk, I believe, sitting on the shore.)

Back in 2010 I spent 3 weeks in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, solo in wood canvas Chestnut Pal. I was wind bound so I tilted the canoe up to take advantage of the wind and sun to dry out the inside.

Thanks, here’s the trip report, it was 12 days, not 3 weeks like I mentioned above.

My wife, dogs and I took advantage of the warm late September weather and took a paddle up and down the Wisconsin River. We like sitting around and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The dogs love exploring sand bars.

Jake enjoys “fishing” for minnows while Max loves to rip up and down the bank with a stick.

The wife and I set up our chairs and watch the boys, we had the entire river to ourselves.

After 3 hours, the boys were sapped of the energy and we endured the up river paddle back to the truck. What are great way to spend half a day canoeing.

We've spent the day cleaning and setting up a camp site on our place. It's only 1/2 a mile from the house but it feels further. We thought it would be nice to have a little spot back on the river to get away. Fire pit and hammock trees, check!
