Yes I was alone but met lots of very encouraging people when I camped. Prior to the trip I had just the opposite from family who were probably getting my obituary ready. I am getting revenge though by hinting that I might go again this Summer,
This photo (late ‘70s or early ‘80s) shows my 15’ Grumman canoe on top of my 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. What a great car that was. Location: the Golden Road in Maine. I think that’s either Chesuncook Lake or Ripogenus Lake in the background.

Ever since the new Bronco came out, I have suspected that someone on the Ford design team is a canoeist. Why else would those handles be there.
2014 Ram 3500 Cummins Diesel, Crew Cab, 4X4 with my 16’ Nova Craft Prospector. Not shown is the 5th wheel, that will be hitched in the truck bed. The front of the canoe is supported by a “goal post rack” on a front mounted receiver hitch. This was in 2021, getting ready to head to Lake Catherine, near Hot Springs, Arkansas. Lake Catherine was created when a dam was built on the Ouachita River.

Thanks in part to the encouragement (or enabling?) of several of our other members, I brought a 1978 Wenonah Jensen C-1 home from WPASCR yesterday. Before this weekend, I wouldn't have guessed that a marathon racer might suit me—I think of canoeing as being about the journey, and I like spinning in circles!—but I had a total blast zipping around Cooper's Lake in this Jensen and some other speedy canoes at the Rendezvous, and I'm already daydreaming about entering it in some local races and flying across Adirondack ponds...
Those are fun boats. I had a couple of them. On both of them I removed the gunwales and cut down the sides a couple inches to make them a little easier for flat water paddling. The sides cut easily with a jigsaw.
On one I shortened the thwarts a little for a bit more tumblehome. It definitely lowered the secondary stability. Not to the point where it was difficult to paddle but there was a noticeable difference when going from one boat to the other.

I noticed you were spending quite a bit of time in those fast cruisers. They are a lot of fun to paddle at speed and exciting if you get into some wind and waves. Have fun!

I'm very pleased that this site and its members can help promote canoe addiction. I've enjoyed a lifetime of dabbling in various canoe (and kayaking) disciplines. Never an expert in any, but pretty darn good in several during my salad days, which hopefully can continue somewhat in my old-age, very-lightweight-and-expensive canoe era. All the different paddling experiences will make you a better all-around paddler and, if you are interested, a good teacher and proselytizer for open canoeing. Enjoy your new toy, @Sliding Focus.
I have no idea which of those canoes I'd enjoy paddling the most, but I do know which one is the most psychedelic eye candy.
