How much have you paddled this year?

I really prioritize outdoor time and find that the older I get, the more I require it for mental health.

This has been my finding as well and many times drove me to get up early on weekends to get in some paddling, even if I had to be back for afternoon/evening plans, etc. I find I’m just able to deal with the work week so much better when I’ve been out on a river with some solitude, even if just for a few hours a week.

30 miles a week x 30 weeks=900 miles give or take in 2025

This would be living the dream though!

My sorta goal is to paddle around every other day on average...so 5-6 times/week in the best weather and lucky to do any paddling in January. Just day paddles. I think I partly don't want to feel like I stop, I want to stay connected to paddling (and nature). This year I'm happy to be paddling with a dog again and more focused on time on the water than miles, but as far as miles go I'll just say watch out for retired guys cause I think I've got you covered.

While this year was much better than last year I would still rate it as feeble.......

28 days on the water (includes a few layover days)
349km (217 miles)

When I turned 60 I decided to aim for a number of days at least equal to my age, for 6 years I either made my goal or came very close. It's been downhill since then for various reasons.

I have spent quite a bit of time at Jesse Owen’s State Park but mostly when it was known as AEP and Ohio Power. Be aware that pretty much all the lakes are actually ponds. Most can be paddled in 15-30 minutes. Wear hunter orange if hiking. Lots of bow hunters down there right now.
Beautiful area. Enjoy.
Thank you.

My dad and grandpa took me down to what we called Ohio power when I was very small. It was where I learned to fish and handle the stern. Also where I landed a snapping turtle! We made soup.

This will be my first time back in about 40 years. We plan on portaging around into some of the ponds away from the roads. Looking forward to it!
