Yet another tempting chair for the back country

I've been using a Trek Ultra chair for the last three seasons. Works great, easy to set up and stretches out those lower back muscles after a day of paddling. I don't have a photo, but you can Google it. I think I bought mine from the manufacturer but you can also get them from Amazon.

BWCA Solo trip with my dog Jake

Looks like you and Jake had a great time in spite of the rain. (I guess it IS you and not me that brings the rain!) I miss tripping with you two.

    Sylvania or Craig Lake SP?

Sylvania should be low on people and still good fishing from now until the cold weather sets in. Fall colors which are superb there, should be beginning in a couple of weeks. After October 1 the campsite fees are free.

Turtle Flambeau Flowage first canoe trip.

That stretch from Murray's to the Bonies Mound/Grant Creek basin is defined by water level. When the water is high, it is a straight crossing across a lake, in low water, it's a series of switchbacks along the river channel. The water level is determined by each of the dams preceding the Turtle...

Sylvania Wilderness - Mountain lake Loop off Crooked Lake.

Early October is a great time to paddle Sylvania. The fall colors are fabulous and you have most of the place to yourself. After October 1st there are no camping fees also. You still have to self-register at the kiosk at the office going in and pick your campsites. That's my favorite route...

Turtle Flambeau Flowage first canoe trip.

I've parked at Murray's overnight many times and never had a problem. I live about 30 minutes away and if there were incidents I'm sure word would get around in this small community. There are usually three or four vehicles parked there for overnights every time I've gone in.

Turtle Flambeau Flowage first canoe trip.

It looks like both of you enjoyed the Turtle Flambeau. It's a great place to get started for young paddlers. Thanks for the pics and report!

    Turtle Flambeau Flowage

I hope I'm not too late with this but TFF is about 20 minutes from my doorstep. If you'd like to message me through this site I could probably give you all the information you'd need to make an informed decision about it. As far as busy times, opening day of fishing or the week before and after...

Great boat, Bob! You bringing it to Turtle Flambeau next week? I like the green one too. Hogan

Ist trip with Jake, 6 month old pup - Turtle Flambau Flowage

Murray's has less motorized boat traffic than the other landings. Most of the canoes and kayaks put in there for that reason. Also, the southern campsites are less busy and more remote than the ones on the northern part of the flowage near Big Island, although there are fewer of them and...

Ist trip with Jake, 6 month old pup - Turtle Flambau Flowage

Hogan's got the paddle YOU made in his hands! Paddles great, but I only take it out where there's little to no chance to ding it up on the rocks. It was great to get out with Bob and it would be super great to get together for that beer!! Great pics Bob...sure make me miss the guy in my avatar.

    Screen Names

I named myself after the best tripping partner ever. (in his memory now) That's his portrait above his name.

    Bear Attack?

I have lived in northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan bear country for most of my life and to my knowledge there has only been a couple of local black bear attacks during that time. Both were bears that were in captivity and there were no human fatalities. On the other hand in this small rural...
