• Happy Birthday, Henry Hudson (1575-1611)! 🍎🏞⛵

Photo of the day

Not exactly canoe related, but I thought I'd share for fun. Just finished a 5 day bike trip on the Great Allegeny Passage rail trail and C&O Canal towpath from Pittsburg to DC. All my companions brought bikepacking setups, which are various bags strapped onto the frame of the bike. Not a lot of extra storage. Very kayaker. In typical canoeist fashion though, I brought a trailer, with plenty of room to carry pretty much anything I pleased. We had to eat lunch on the trail a couple of days rather than stopping in a town, and guess who got to carry the food for the group. :)

Metamorphosis!

These are generally known as "photographer's canoes" so they can more easily match the color of the canoe to the background of their picture. The image at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/32530/ and link below have some more information and other examples.

My daughter took these on a paddle some years back, I'm posting them in reverse order:

It's the bridge you paddle under going from the 2nd Kanawauke lake to the 1st lake (also known as Little Long Pond).

Sadly, that beautiful 1930s CCC stonework has since been replaced by a modern ugly concrete and corrugated steel pipe, though in the same shape. The original deal when Harriman State Park took over the ownership of the road from the county was that they would face the new concrete with stones to look like the original, but of course it never happened.
