I mentioned this book before, but it is a superb read, almost McPhee-esque in writing style.

Not just the 200 year history of successive Great Lakes invasives, but the Mississippi and western rivers as well. When (not if) quagga mussels get into the Columbia River system the crap will really hit the fan.

Back in 2000 on a trip we ran into a fisherman who had a hefty Muskie he caught. We got a nice education on the history of this fish in that region and if it hits another watershed the S*%t is gonna hit the fan for fish that are natural to those habitats. The Muskie was supposedly introduced at some point in time to some of Maine's rivers. Maybe others more familiar with this can chime in.

We've run into fishermen trying to catch them at Allagash Falls. Fortunately, they can't get over the falls.
