• Happy Paperback Book Day (1935)! 🐧📃🔙📖

Photo of the day

So your start date was May 22nd? The ice on our lake didn't even leave until about May 15, you must have had some frosty days!
Yes, it was quite chilly at times, especially on days with north and northwest winds. Unfortunately, a fire ban had to be imposed on day nine, which made some evenings and mornings a bit frosty. Too cold for skinny dipping. I was very happy Friday, June 13th when the fire ban was revoked.

All in all, though, it was a good trip!

This has been in the works for a while now but last Saturday 7/19/25 I traded in my Hemlock Eaglet lll in the lite-tech layup to Hemlock Canoe. When setup as a solo (Front and rear seats removed and thwarts installed) she weighed in at 38#. As a "Combi" it was right around 43#. I found that I'd only use it as a "Combi" once a year so it really wasn't worth it to have IMO.

I replaced it with "Purple Rain" a 32# Hemlock solo Eaglet. The team at Hemlock did an amazing job. As expected Paul Conklin's wood work and custom black & purple "Conk" seat are just stunning. The purple fabric looks amazing, love it!

Life has been busy so I've barely have even padded
😢

Gorgeous color on a gorgeous boat.

Paddled through the upper Cuyahoga, yes, that Cuyahoga, yesterday. Water levels were up and that allowed for paddling around sweeps in the main channel more easily. This section passes through woodlands of maple, elm, swamp white oak and the remnants of ash. It then opens up into a button bush swamp. I’ve seen otter here in the past though just beaver and raccoon yesterday. One of Ohio’s gems. Rob
