Glenn, I'm getting too old to make that 6 hour drive to the Adirondaks and put in a good day on the water on the same day. As far as the rack, I may experiment with a rack on the cab as it's hard to tie off the bow where it is now.

Canube, the owner that conceived of the idea uses his for road trips to Ohio from south central Pa, where he hunts deer on public land. Yeah, they don't seem to be giving discounts, but they did give me a free cargo type basket rack that I hope I can use in the winter.

Gamma, I was told about the padlock idea, but from the time I ordered to the time I picked it up they made the rear window a standard feature instead of an option. Supposedly you can open the tailgate from it.

Well, crap. Being able to open the rear window takes all the fun out of it. Probably wouldn't matter though, that (probably drunken) former self wouldn't have noticed it either and would probably still be giggling.

Nice alternative to a camper.

That’s a special window. I believe it’s the one they use in their hunting blinds to shoot out of, so I always have that.

Wow, Al, that's unique! Upon first glance I thought it was some sort of barometric, medical isolation, or even a prison chamber. Very clever. It will beat setting up a tent in the dark, in the rain, or when you're just tired.

There's quite a rear overhang with the canoe, but I suppose it would have been difficult to get a proper bar height with one rack bar on the front of the cab.

Keep us informed about your experience with this type of bed camper. It may influence others.

I like your setups. It's important to carry boats safely for everyone else on the road.

After pondering how to carry a big canoe on a little truck, I went with the Wildtop camper top and a second hand Alurack from a full size cargo van. I cut down the length of the siderails and the width of the crossbars to reduce the stress on the camper top originally designed to hold 220 lbs driving or 750 lbs parked. I will secure the bow and stern for higher speed driving but it was real solid on my first local outing. The new Frontier has no off the shelf roof rack option for the king cab, but there are some for the bigger crew cab.
