Visited Scotland a few years ago with my wife, and grown son with his 3 kids. Spent a day roaming the famous Culloden battle field trails near Inverness. How the Scots could ever have run through that thick heather and woody brushy low growth wearing kilts, while wielding swords and other weapons I'll never know.
Later, while taking my shower at the hotel I noticed what felt like a bb under my skin in my armpit. I called my wife to inspect. As I lay on the bed, all we could find was a rusty pair of tweezers in the bottom of my bathroom travel kit. She dug around in it for a while as the teen granddaughter screamed "eeeewwww". Middle son claimed he had just taken first aid training in the Boy Scouts. I did not let him try. Youngest son asked "Gramma, what is your password" so he could look up what to do on the internet. Finally, all that could be dug out was dug out. Pieces were saved and later under a kid's microscope you could see the jagged leg spikes. Weeks later, at home my doc gave me the antibiotic routine. Since than I have not shown positive for Lyme, even though I have had other native NY imbedded ticks under my skin from time to time.
