This old thread popped up from 10 years ago and it made me wonder how the answers of 2026 compare to the answers of 2016.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ten years older.

Good idea. I've wondered whether the age mix has changed in 10 years. So far, I'm the one octogenarian. Perhaps someone with statistical experience can compare the two polls after a couple of months of responses to the new one.

By the way, I like to have the title of all poll threads prefaced with "Poll:" because most people don't notice what forum threads are in. I edit titles to be structured that way if the OP is unfamiliar with the custom. (Actually, I spend much of my admin time making titles more specific for SEO purposes and moving threads to more relevant forums.)

I wasn't a regular here in 2016, never saw or posted to that thread.

I do wonder how many of the 70's, 80's 90's that were here 10 years ago will be able to update. I know that at least one of the previous "30's" is no longer with us.

you may want to close the old thread to new responses (if you haven't already) to protect the integrity of the results.

Good idea. Never had to do that before. I locked the 2016 poll thread, but I'm not sure that prevents people from voting in the poll. The best I could figure out from the poll editing feature was to close the poll in one hour.

Funny this should pop up today as I turn 73 tomorrow. Guess that means I was 63 the last time the poll appeared; that is, if my math is correct. As you get older, some things don't work as well as they once did!

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

While there certainly are a goodly number of younger folk, from their teens to the 30's, I have long noted that canoe races draw more than the expected fair share of older paddlers for an athletic event. One often seen older gentleman, Glenn, just retired in his mid 80's, due to a bum leg and inability to run on the carries with canoe on the Adirondack 90 miler.

My frequent paddling partners, with several at one time or another paddling together with me in my voyageur canoe during the Yukon and ADK races, include a pathologist, an active duty military combat hospital medic, a cardiologist married to a surgical suite nurse coordinator (both on board paddlers), and a physical therapist hospice care giver. I have used the professional services of the cardiologist and husband, and the PT, although not while racing. Currently my family physician is also a canoe racer who I train with. So, I guess I am well covered for most old age or medical incidents.
