I saw this doe spying on me this morning.



She was right on this point.

I got my boys out for an evening pond paddle just before Halloween. Miacomet pond runs perhaps a couple miles and is separated from the ocean by only a thin strip of sand.

It's the time of year when it's getting too chilly for the pup but she still wants to go so my choices are take her and shorten the paddle if she starts shivering or feel bad about leaving her behind.

My wife, father in law, Abby the dog, buddy Patrick and I took a 2 night trip on the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania last weekend.

It's not a permanent structure. About two weeks ago someone made and used it as a makeshift shelter, it was covered with a tarp (tipi-style). Next time I stay overnight there, I will probably use the poles as firewood

Gumpus, thanks for posting these views of serenity... reminds me of a summer interning at a Nature Center in Berrien county (near the river) almost 50 years ago! Never paddled the St Joe but hiked in parks on/near Lake MI on days off...

Kudos on keeping that bear from being fed....and then maybe dead! ("A fed bear is a dead bear," as the saying goes. )

Yes, all food was in Bear Vaults. He walked right by them, about 10 yds away, never disturbed them at all.

Must have swam to the campsite, as Beaver were going crazy, slapping their tails ! that was my first clue something was around.
