Stunning!
Stunning!
Baby water snakes (Nerodia spp.) and racers have similar patterns. They all darken with age.Came across this little guy and thought it looked exotic. My snake expert brother-in-law said it was just a baby Black Ratsnake (aka Central or Midland Ratsnake). They are pure black as adults and get quite a bit bigger.

so, in this case I have one out of the first days ... great to know. The description below is from page 44 of their 2000 catalog. It was first shown in the 1999 catalog.
I’d love to go again after 15 years. If there’s another soloist or small group not filling up their floatplane, I’d be more than happy to share the fly-in costs.Horton River, Northwest Territory. Just got back. Oh, that's the Arctic Ocean there.View attachment 148329View attachment 148330
Robin, I was inspired to put Poland Pond on my bucket list after reading your trip report (https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/poland-pond-north-maine-woods.118112/#post-135525) and watching the video you made about it when you were there in 2020. It took me five years, but I got there, and it was worth it. Thank you! Interestingly, when I was camping on Lobster Lake in 2024, a Maine Forest Ranger visited me. When I asked him about Poland Pond, he said he was not familiar with it. He had to look it up on the map app on his phone. It must not be visited very often, as the access road to it was nearly overgrown.I have been to Poland pond, beautiful place.
