Relative to seating position, I borrowed and then bought two of Glenn's Wenonah 10° Black Lite Elbow Carbon paddles, one a 50" and the other a 52". My only bent shaft to date was a 54", which is better suited to my high seated Trippers. After an initial paddle, I think the 50" seems like the right fit for the Huki. I'm 5'9".

Even though it was literally hard to see him in the veritable monsoon he was test paddling in, Steve demonstrated what I call good "stomach crunch" power technique with the shorter bent shaft. That is, where the forward stroke power is imparted not so much with an upper arm push, or a lower arm pull, or an exaggerated rotation of the torso, but mostly by bearing your body weight in a downward angle onto the short paddle and assisted by a moderate torso rotation.

Here's a photo of Steve and his various body parts: ama in hand, one iako clipped into the hull, the other iako along with his ankle leash and two Wenonah carbon paddles on the ground, and the iako screw knobs on the sliding foam seat. You'll note the nice black color match between many of these parts and his pants, PFD and (I'm nostalgic) beard.

We have actually moved twice in the last four months! I now have stuff in three locations!

The ability to paddle year round is great. We still only have the Coleman here. Hopefully soon I can bring the other canoes over.

My first fish since I moved here! I tried a bit when we first moved here but no luck. Then I got hurt and spent the following spring and summer mostly on the couch. The other day a friend took us to a little park pond in his neighborhood that was absolutely PACKED with panfish and I caught a few of these little guys on a winged ant fly. My other new-to-fishing friend and 7yo nephew also caught their first fish too!
