I found this on Craigslist a couple weeks ago. I have never seen a motor mount like this before and I probably won't find another so I decided to grab it. I am not a fan of side mounts. I find them unstable and dangerous. I am hoping this will be a better solution.

I played around with the mount this morning on my Chestnut Prospector. It is definitely more stable than a side mount. I was able to cruise at full throttle no problem. The biggest issue I have is getting the prop in the water. I have to use ballast in the stern as well as the bow. I think after a few more attempts I will find a way efficient way to make this work.

Nice find. I’m intrigued with the design. Very simple. If the brace over the deck had longer legs it would lower the motor. Looks like they are just bolted together.

You see lots of those (or variants) up here and generally have a Mud buddy or A Go-devil fastened to them. Both long tail mud motors. That could be some of the reason it seems too high. Lots of our guys use the canoe/mud motor set up for moose hunting.

these two wouldn't make it in Alaska! Click ”watch on you tube” for some entertainment.
