Garage Racks for Canoes

Gumpus, where did you get those wall racks for your canoes? My garage is getting very filled with 4 canoes on sawhorses and kayaks underneath the sawhorses or hanging from rafters...I'd like to get a system like the one you have in this photo...Thanks!

Canoe storage stand/rack

I'm looking for ideas for storage of 3 canoes with a minimum footprint. Maybe wall mounted, possibly free standing. Solo canoe size so weight requirements are under 50 lbs each.

The one with the pipe sticking out of drilled holes in post #10 lends itself to padding it with hollow foam pipe insulation. Fast, inexpensive and flexible. What's not to like?

The racks were built for me by a carpenter that probably spent too much time on the details. I think the key for the design is starting with a 2x4 or 2x2 anchored very securely to the wall. If I was going to DYI I'd pribably try to find a suitable design on YouTube that uses plastic plumbing tubing...or maybe just go with the design Lance posted.

I just had a large new garage built at camp last year with a wall of canoes on cedar post racks, made by the same local carpentry guys who make all of my camp inside furniture the same way. Since this photo I have installed a second set for canoes I have for now stored in another shed by the water in the summer. i also have a very high 12 foot ceiling pulley hand lift system for when I run out of wall space.

I put up a rack in my garage with 2x4s and construction screws and it’s currently holding 3 canoes and around 180 lbs without issue. I built it so I could put a 4th canoe on small stands underneath it at ground level. It was cheap and easy and feels quite sturdy. I might have $100 in it.

Just old 2x4 with GRK structural screws holding it together and to the wall.
