ALSG, Tom and I made a trip up to Blue Mountain Outfitters in Marysville PA today. I had e-mailed them a list of stuff I was looking for the day before:
Plastic or composite seat pans. Old Wenonah stuff, new Wenonah stuff, Mad River IQ stuff, etc. I need a seat pan, my friend DougD needs one as well. At least two.
Flange washers
Robert’s valves for float bag tubes.
Strap grommets and other doohickies from the lazy Susan bins.
Some chunks of minicel, pieces you have in scrap under the mysterious trap door would probably suffice.
Sumattas, preferable nylon.
I printed the list and presented it at the front counter. Sarah looked at it and asked “What’s a Sumatta”. I responded “I dunno, what’s Sumatta you?”. Mary, one of the BMO owners was also standing behind the counter and remarked “Dammit, I spent time Googling that last night”, and we all had a good laugh.
I Googled the made up word Sumattas when I got home. And the singular “Sumatta”. The closest Mary would have found on Google is this:
https://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Sumata
Oh. My. God.
ALSG got everything on his list. Tom didn’t have a list but still left with a new double bent Mitchell paddle and 30’ of good bungee cord.
I got everything on my list. Except a Sumata.
BMO is great people, canoe people who really know their stuff. We could have spent all day there and, even with lists in hand, did spend a couple hours.
