This trip was originally planed for the Summer of 2024 but cancelled at the last minute.

I hope to be on my way Saturday night but this is a solo trip so NO DEADLINES, I hope to get to the put-in by Sunday (it's at least 17 hours of driving, not including snack and nap stops). I'll probably start paddling on Monday.

I've been monitoring the weather for the past month, it's been hot but calm. Just now looking at the 14 day forecast, temps are dropping which will be nice but the winds are increasing. With no current to assist me I foresee quite a few layover days, when I see whitecaps I just go back to sleep!

The total distance around the big centre island is about 220km, if conditions allow I will no doubt wander from the inner shore to the outer shore and maybe paddle up one or two of the rivers that enter from the North. This wandering could extend the distance to 300km. I will have plenty of supplies, enough for full rations for 3 weeks, I usually eat less than I think I will so I'll be fine if it ends up being a bit longer.

A bit of a shock to me, this will be my first solo trip since 2022!

As usual I will be posting daily(?) updates here:

Looking forward to hearing about this trip on an interesting lake. Best of luck, stay safe, and have fun!

It would seem, depending on the direction of travel and the direction of the wind that it could be possible to do a good job of hiding from the wind depending on if you paddle from the inside or outside of the lake.

I'm thinking, for example, if you're traveling east or west then you could hide from either a north wind or a south wind by switching shorelines. Of course this assumes you can switch shorelines before the wind gets bad enough to preclude a crossing. It looks like the width of the lake varies from 1.5-5 miles so a crossing isn't something to trifle with.

Good Luck with your trip. I like your timeline, no rush, travel when you want, eat when you want and enjoy the ride. I'd be interested in your menu for 3 weeks. Looking forward to your trip report.

Awww. Methinks you and Fuddle are gonna miss yer ne’er-do-well mates, but we’ll be checkin’ on ya from Elon’s eye-in-the-sky. I’ll be sure to send ya a couple “cmon, you’re burnin daylight” rise&shine messages. At least this trip should be ice free. Be careful - you’re not 70 anymore!
