I hope to be on my way Saturday night but this is a solo trip so NO DEADLINES, I hope to get to the put-in by Sunday (it's at least 17 hours of driving, not including snack and nap stops). I'll probably start paddling on Monday.
I've been monitoring the weather for the past month, it's been hot but calm. Just now looking at the 14 day forecast, temps are dropping which will be nice but the winds are increasing. With no current to assist me I foresee quite a few layover days, when I see whitecaps I just go back to sleep!
The total distance around the big centre island is about 220km, if conditions allow I will no doubt wander from the inner shore to the outer shore and maybe paddle up one or two of the rivers that enter from the North. This wandering could extend the distance to 300km. I will have plenty of supplies, enough for full rations for 3 weeks, I usually eat less than I think I will so I'll be fine if it ends up being a bit longer.
A bit of a shock to me, this will be my first solo trip since 2022!
As usual I will be posting daily(?) updates here:
