Works well if woods is straight grain 6" dia. & 12" long (camp wood ), Up till last year I split 6 cords by hand annually. The only way to do that are wedge & sledge. Try to split 24" x 24" logs of hornbeam or crotch sugar maple with an axe see how long that will take, it won't be a short video.

Boom x 10. After splitting five cord a year by hand for several years, my wife bought me an electric splitter. Best dang thing since canned pork particles.

I use to split wood by hand also and did not have much time for anything else. So finally wised up and bought a gas operated splitter. Now it only takes 3 days to do my 20 to 25 16 inch cords.
