Patapsco Valley State Park offered a canoe, trash-collecting, trip on June 26, 9-11 a.m. That's not much time, but the Daniels stretch is nice, and they were bringing the gear, so what the heck, I went. It was kind of a shock when the leaders (young adults from Americore) asked us to turn back. Seemed like we had just gotten on the water. We got about half a bag of trash. We could, in two hours, have collected many bags of trash walking around near the car park.
Only upon return did I notice the name on the aluminum canoe we were paddling: Minnow. I started to make a crack about it and had to stop myself. I doubt if any of the Americore "kids" would have even faint recall of Gilligan's Island, but the song played in my head the rest of the day.
