last Weekend ...
Matthias and Gerhard had again invited me to the “Canadier Camp: 16-18.05.2025 in Erfelden, at KC Darmstadt”
Of course I'm going there again, it's only two hours away. That's what I thought. Roadworks without end on the route - but I got there despite that.
After setting up, I'll have a coffee - and then we'll see.

Once everyone had arrived and set up and furnished their sleeping quarters, we took our time on the first day.

We sat and chatted a bit, then later made a small fire and let the evening draw to a close.

The night was short. These “eco-terrorists” start at five o'clock on the dot.

Well - what the hell.
Breakfast. Riddle up ..

but Wilma is also a beauty!!!

We then spent Saturday's morning program, under the expert guidance of the ACA instructors, using the paddle a little more beautifully and effectively. Conscious, slow paddling/riding with the right technique makes even the “fat Wilma” look elegant.

It was great.

And then, while we practiced what we had learned in the afternoon in a smaller group, during that the culinary delights were already being prepared on land.

Slices of white bread with herb butter fried in garlic oil with shrimps, goulash soup from the Duch Oven as a starter and then leg of deer with fresh Spaetzle (kind of nudel) with brown sauce and cranberries. I'll spare you the pictures ...

It was an all-round successful and valuable weekend for me. I learned a lot and had a great time with friends.

Best regards
Michael

I had to look this word up, as I've never heard it before. I understand that open canoes are called "Canadian canoes" in Europe, and I myself sometimes use my own invented word "CanAm" canoe to describe open canoes derived from the hull shape of North American birch bark canoes. Maybe I'll now use "Canadier" from time to time.

Different words for different nerds.

sleeping quarters

I've noticed from Kahel's photos over the years, and also from other photos of canoe gatherings in Germany, that tipi-style tents seem more popular in Germany than the USA. I wonder why.

That's a wonderful benefit. Do the attendees try out the instructors' canoes and each other's canoes? I see quite an interesting mixture of models, including a Hemlock SRT.

Yes, tipis convey the great feeling of freedom and adventure - I think

Yes, of course we swapped our boats with each other to try out a different one.

But I remain loyal to my Wilma!

oh ... then she'll know it.

PS:
I am always amazed that there are so many “points of contact” between Americans / Canadians here to Germany.
I like it! (y)
