When I bought my gen1 Rapidfire (with wood gunwales) shortly after they became available ~20 years ago, I told Joe Moore that I wanted a higher seat than the 3 stacked resin seats offered. He said he had made a drop seat version by adding an extra weight of belly band of fabric for strength during construction for seat support, but that was too late for my canoe already built. He did offer, however, a higher rail sliding seat with a 15 degree forward down tip, the same as he had in his own Rapidfire for racing. It is very comfortable for me and I have raced it. I have the same seat in my one year old Shadow, plus elevated an extra 1.5 inches. Joe initially told me he would not do that, because three other guys with an elevated seat all asked him to lower them because they were so unstable and could not be held upright. My RF is extremely stable as is, and my Shadow is manageable, unless it is unloaded and I lift my arms and any weight (such as a camera) to head level or above, which is fine by me. I use a single blade canoe paddle (never a kayak paddle) to single side propel both canoes, always.
