Hello from Canada.....
While I was researching for my third Bruce Smith paddle, I came upon a thread from this forum by Glenn MacGrady, (My quest for the best custom made ottertail paddle in the world).

I enjoyed reading all the threads about custom paddles and now that I have received my last order from Bruce, it's my turn to show them.
Cheers everyone!

looking good , what to you like so much about these? can you show the edges of the blade , how sharp or blunt are they?

Welcome. The one the right looks like Sassafras. What are the others... Walnut with some sapwood? If so, what does something like that weigh?

Anyway, nice looking collection.
The one on the right is black cherry, the dark one is black walnut and the last one is butternut with a black walnut shaft. I haven't weight them or even used them yet.

I will take a picture soon...... I researched a lot before buying and what I like about Bruce Smith is that he is not only a paddle maker that does everything from start to hand by hand but he also is a certified O.C.A. master level canoeist. Here's something I copied online....

With over 55 years' experience, Bruce Smith is one of a rare breed of paddle makers who carves each paddle by hand from start to finish. He uses no automation, no CNC machines, no copy lathe or dupicator, unlike most paddles on the market. Why? The answer is simple. Careful individualized carving allows Bruce to accommodate the innate features of each piece of wood which vary piece by piece, even within the same species.

It sounds like Bruce knows what he is doing. I am really looking forward to your feedback when the blades are in the water. What boat do you paddle? Or boats. Many members seems to have more then one. The best paddle makers I know do paddle, do stuff with wood or carbon and did a number of paddles.
