Getting started on my winter project building a Kite. I’ve found my Redbird too much boat for solo trips, and my Petrl Play tight on cargo space. The solution, after a lot of research, is this next project. I ordered the plans through Nick Schade at Guillemot Kayaks. I’ve built a couple of Nick’s designs. I’ll be getting my materials together, making a new strongback and start building likely in January after we get back from a vacation. Of course, I’ll need to negotiate with Ms. Bindi for somewhere to sit in my shop office.

It doesn't look like Ms. Bindi is in the mood for negotiation.

Looking forward to seeing your build if you get a chance to share your progress. I'm not talented enough to build a canoe but I enjoy looking over these build reports, it's a fascinating process.

That looks like a great choice for a solo. it has an interesting transition into the tumblehome, or would that be called a very high chine? Good luck and I am looking forward to reading your build reports.

I'm looking forward to seeing this build come together! I have read through some of the other excellent Kite build threads here, and it looks like a great solo boat. As a chronic over-planner I'm already considering it as my most likely solo boat to build... which will be after I build my first two boats, which I haven't started on yet. So... one day. For now I will live vicariously through your thread! best of luck, and I'm stoked to see it shape up!
Cheers,
TPG

Got started on this build finally. Five sheets of plywood later I have my mobile strongback and the first couple forms made from 3/4 GIS ply. Three sheets of 5/8 MDF are in the carport for the remaining forms ready to rip down to carry-able size for my 69.9 year old self. If I could just keep this geezer off firetrucks I’d have more time.
