I know I already have 4 or 5 but I need to upgrade my solo set.

Requirements/wants:
-Needs to be fire friendly
-Needs to be relatively lightweight HA Aluminum or Titanium
-Needs to be durable and of high quality
-non-stick is preferred but not necessary.
-need a pot of over 1L
-need a frying pan that will nest
-I'm not convinced a bail handle is necessary but would prefer one
-I'm in Canada so buying from the US is not preferred considering it will add 50% to the price

I like this one from Four Dog Stove with the Ti lids and bail handle, but they will not ship to Canada and they are out of stock.

Then there is this pot which looks plenty big but wonder about the quality as it is just a no-name brand from China

I could add a little kettle and a bowl to this to satisfy most of my needs.

Bowl - http://www.mec.ca/product/5035-527/msr-nesting-bowl/?Ntk=productsearch_en_q32008&No=0&h=10&q=bowl

There is this relatively new set which is a bit heavy but I really like

The removable handle concerns me but not lots. The capacity is 1L for the pot and .5L for the pan which is a bit small. It is almost a 7 inch pan which is small but it is deep which is good. The set is short and wide which is better than tall.

This one here is also another nice looking set but no frying pan.

I like this one-http://www.gsioutdoors.com/shop/cooking/pots-pans/bugaboo-base-camper-small.html you can ditch the cutting board and strainer to cut weight

How about a 5 cup Mors pot, @ 6.7 oz and hard HA, with a small Paderno blue steel cake pan as a skillet @ 4.8oz. They should nest well and both should be available in Canada and at least in the states under $30.

Maybe you can come to Snow Walkers in Fairlee VT in Nov and get your own Four Dog Mors Pot. I have been trying to win one for seven years in the raffle. So far no dice. There is always one donated and of course more for sale.
Some of your forum buds may be able to ship if you can't come
This all assumes you can wait.

Can't get a Mors Pot in Canada. I do like it, but was looking at buying to and realized that after all was said and done would probably cost me close to $80, that's when I started on the Ti kick.

I like Hoops's set for sure, but where to get them. I think they are Oilcamp brand but he can confirm. I do believe he added the bails on them too.

I have almost that same GSI set but the handle is not what I would consider fire friendly. I suppose I could buy a pot gripper instead. It is also 2.5 pounds and I think all the ones mentioned above come in under a pound.

Trangia Tundra cook sets are available from Canadian Outdoor Equipment. I have had good luck with using the individual Trangia pots and fry pans on their own without the Trangia windshields. Good luck.

Yah you can. I buy. I send it to you Canada Post. You pay me.

Olicamp. I have had some of these since the "70's

Yes a bail is a godsend over a fire.. Accidents happen involving the loss of dinner if you try to use a pot grabber.

i stock up on second-hand nesting aluminum billy pots, =~ 1,2,3 litre with lids and good bails...everything but non-stick, i bring a pan for frying...dont' know why i'd need more -- sometimes i leave the large pot out, usually not -- the top is a great doog-food dish. in my dreams, i have the same set, in ti -- used to have copper-bottom ss, i prefer the al

When we bring a stove, we bring a Trangia, it is not the lightest or smallest, but every thing fits in one package and they are super simple!! One thing I wouldn't go w/o, is my FryBake frying pan with lid. I rarely travel solo, so I need a bigger kitchen than if I was and also no real portages in our area so no need to go super light. http://frybake.com

After more searching I am now looking at these four options.

Toaks Combo 1
Weight 280g plus stove 112g plus 94g clikstand
Cost $96.95 USD = $135 CAD plus shipping ~$20-30
http://toaksoutdoor.com/toakstitanium1350900comboset.aspx

or
Toaks Combo 2
Weight 141g + 145g (not sure why the larger pot weighs less) = 286g plus stove 112g plus 94g clickstand
Cost $106.90USD = $145CAD plus shipping ~$20-30

and This

or Snow Peak Combo
Weight 370g plus stove 112g plus 94g clikstand
Cost $117CAD no shipping
http://www.mec.ca/product/5031-014/snow-peak-trek-combo-titanium-cookset/

or Trangia 25-8 HA/UL
Weight 1055g
Cost $161CAD no shipping
https://www.canadianoutdoorequipment.com/trangia-25-8-ul-ha-cookset.html

The Trangia set is by far heavier (double) than the other options but it also includes the stove which is 112g, and the windscreen. The other options I would use my click stand which again will drive up the weights of the other options by 94g so you can add the weight to others sets. It also include the kettle which seems like a nice option. It also adds about 200g to the total weight. I think the Trangia is the only non-stick as well. I have a click stand and would almost certainly try to modify the Trangia kit to work without the top and bottom windscreens.

The only option with a bail handle is the Toaks Combo 2

I like the 2 pot set Hoop used in his Woodland Caribou videos
It show up at around 5:20

Hi Red. That link Sweeper provided shows my Evernew Ti pot set that I modified to fit bail handles on. Somewhere on MyCCR I posted a photo rich how-to for drilling the pots, making an offset tab for the bail handle, and pop riveting them on. The Ti pots are the Evernew "deep" 1.4L and 1.9L, both are also non-stick interior. Link here: http://www.evernewamerica.com/non-stick-series/

This is the 1.4L (1400ml) Ti deep non-stick pot that I modded to fit a bail handle to:

ECA403_img1.jpg

Unfortunately it looks like Evernew stopped making the 1.9L deep. The deep pots are necessary for non-locking bails so they won't tip when hoisted by the bail. A short wide pot with a non-locking bail will tip over. I don't know how to make a locking bail that is light weight, so I went for the deep pots (about as tall as they are wide), and they work for my modded wire bail handle.

The bail handled Toaks Ti pots look like a good set. I think the 1300 and 1600 sizes would make a good solo set. The 1300 would be plenty of room to stir a big meal and not slop over the edge. I use my 1400 Evernew for my one-pot meals. And the 1600 would give you plenty of clean boiled water for hot drinks and wash water. They do not have the deep dish swing handle lids like the Evernew has. I find these lids extremely useful. I eat out of them, and dip water with them which is especially useful as a dipper in winter through ice holes.

Toaks also makes tall or deep Ti pots with deep dish lids and handles similar to Evernew, link here: http://toaksoutdoor.com/cookware.aspx But you would have to install wire bail handles on these.

NOTE: Bens Backwoods sells the anodized aluminum Mors pots, link here: http://www.bensbackwoods.com/billy-pots/ I think Ben ships to Canada. These are made in USA, so in theory should have no duty charge.

Thanks HOOP that's a nice mod

So in four years of use have the off the shelf, pop rivets had a problem?

I ended up going with the Toaks 1600ml and 1100ml with the bails. Found a Canadian (Boreal Ventures www.borealventures.com) retailer so the final cost was 159.99+tax. The deep lids were a good feature but in the end opted for another frying pan option. I watched a few videos with those deep lids and the looked finicky to stay on. I was leaning towards the Trangia set because I really liked the kettle option and the HA non-stick option but in the end realized there was no lid for them so if I cooked on the fire they would get filled with ash. While the frying pan could have been used it was good for only one at a time. I still may buy the Trangia set one day but it's not today. I also ordered the Purcell Trench Traveler grill from Canadian Outdoor Equipment so let the cooking over fire learning curve begin. I got some serious overtime in last month so thankfully that will pay for this latest gear.

I would love to find myself a New old stock "cold handle" frying pan.... like a 10-12 inch!!
