Hello from Vermont

I recently found this site after rediscovering the joys of canoeing. I’ve been spending a lot of time reading this forum so I figured I should join and introduce myself.

I spent much of my youth canoeing rivers and lakes in Iowa and the Midwest. For the last couple decades, I’ve been using a kayak for my river and camping adventures. My family and I moved to central Vermont a year ago and we been enjoying exploring rivers and lakes here in our old Grumman canoes. (17’ standard and 20’ Guide) We’ve been enjoying it so much that we’ll likely add to the fleet since there are so many great canoe options available around here. If there are any paddlers in the area with river trip or lake suggestions, I’m always looking for new places to paddle.

Nice,I know the Estherville area quite well and went through there often on our trips to the Iowa Great Lakes . I lived in Central Iowa, Ames area, for most of my life. I spent a lot of time on various rivers around there. Skunk, Boone, Des Moines, Raccoon, Iowa etc… Spent many nights on sandbars and had some of the best times of my life with friends there.

Welcome. Glad to have you along & happy that you decided to do more than lurk. Can't help much with route suggestions up there but I'll certainly look forward to pictures & trip reports if you got 'em.

Welcome 802. I believe that’s Mt. Carmel in the distance seen from Chittenden Reservoir. I’ve spent many pleasant hours there on the reservoir, often “dinner cruises” where we paddle out to a likely shoreline, swim and enjoy the lake, cook dinner over a fire, then paddle home at sunset.

Although there are plenty of lakes to paddle in Vermont, I prefer the Adirondacks for canoe camping, or, ‘tripping’. Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area in Addison, VT might be an interesting spot to paddle.
