Late to the party here, but a couple more rough and ready options for filling in the side of the seat are proposed by Lisa DeHart. In one video she suggests salvaged seat belts or other webbing attached all the way across the seat for paddling with your butt to one side. Here is the even easier entry, foam mat and electrical tape (discussed briefly about 3:12 in). Not as nice as those with made with webbing or caning all the way across like kahels, but easy. I just have a 2" thick garden kneeling pad that I slide to where I want when kneeling to one side or the other to keep the seat edge from digging in.
