I've been searching for a vee stern Chestnut for about two years. I finally found one at the Finger Lakes Boating Museum. Under two hours from me which was a bonus. Included with the sale was two extra thwarts, a great Cherry Chestnut paddle, patch kit and some cool swag. A good day for sure.

There is an 18 foot chestnut v stern with a small motor for sale a few hundred kilometers west of me for 2500 canadian. I'll tell ya, if I didn't already have two square stern and a wife, I'd be in the truck right now

That is some nice stuff you picked up. That repair kit with the ambroid glue is hard to find, I finally found one a couple of years ago. That canoe looks like it in great shape, good job on the find.

Cool. What's the length, beam and weight of that canoe? Are you going to put an outboard motor on it? What horsepower?

18 foot. Spec sheet says 90 pounds, but this has the added " Close rib" option which brings it to 110. Just at my carry limit. Beam is 36. I will be using my 2.5hp mercury. I think this will be the best of both worlds. The transom is above the waterline. I should be able to motor out, set camp, ditch the motor and paddle as efficiently as a double ender.

I tried a side mount motor mount last summer and found it to be dangerous and unstable. I also tried a Grumman square stern, but it wasn't fun to paddle with all that drag.
