2025 Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous

Anybody know if the wooden canoe heritage group is going to be there? They used to always be there with one of their newly built/restored canoes…and raffle tickets. Never win, but always willing to take a chance and make a donation too.

I usually bring (non-vegetarian) cookies for the pot luck buffet. Hope to see some of you there.

What makes a cookie non-vegetarian?!?!?

Ahh, so many levels now: Flexatarian> Omnivore> Polotarian> Pescatarian> Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian> Vegetarian> Vegan and probably a few others I missed.

I just like food!

I was asking myself the same thing. The weather report of rain and high wind that I heard did not look very good. It was hard to convince myself to drive the many miles to the event. I hope those that did attend did well and had a good time.

Friday was a cold, rainy day and I think only a couple of paddlers actually got on the lake for a short time. The vegetarian Pot-Luck dinner was GREAT! The weather, while poor for paddling, made it a good time to meet, talk and listen to "old hands".

Saturday morning was still a bit wet, but the pancake breakfast kept up the spirits. The rain did start clearing out in the late morning and the canoes began hitting the lake. There were some freestyle lessons going on and a sandwich smorgasbord for a lunch. Boats continued to ply the water throughout Saturday afternoon and until the BBQ chicken dinner. I heard mentioned that this morning had been the coldest temperature ever recorded in Pennsylvania for May 31. Wool, fleece and rain gear were popular outer (and maybe under) wear.

I had left by 7:00 on Sunday morning but the weather seemed to be improving, so more folks may well have paddled that day.
