There's no doubt that they're gettin' good. Won't be long at all until we'll be wondering: "
Is it live (real) or is it Memorex?"
With all the AI, Chat CTP, etc, one has to wonder how we'll discern fact from fiction in a few years, let alone if an aspiring photographer or writer will really stand a chance to earn a living.
there are actually some free online courses that teach you to spot the errors, I took in a 4hour online seminar put on by the media arts program at a local college- it was free, but you had to attend by Zoom.
the salient points were 1) look at shadows if they seem to have different orientations, different shading, or are missing or exist when they shouldn't, it's probably AI, 2) look at "end points"- corners, lines, and angles- if you follow them and they seem to disappear in mid air, or converge at weird angles, it's probably AI, and 3) continuity- do colors, patterns, or textures change abruptly when they shouldn't, are there repeats of then, do proportions seem strange?
so, now- look at the pic; under )1 you can see a slight shadow to the front left of the woodpile, there should also be the same shadow under the overhang of the tent on the left, as well as shadows under the trees, the dog's shadow is directly below it and also appears to be to the right slightly.
2) end points- on the facing side of the tent there should be visible pegs for all the tie outs considering their size, in the far front corner, you'll notice a very abrupt kink in the supporting pole right where the flap is tied, yet the canvas appears to be straight, and when you look at the firewood, the tarp should be pulling away from the weird angled pole, not pushing towards it, and would require a peg and line, neither of which is visible, and the ridge line is extremely straight considering the size of the stick being used for it and the tension applied by both the way it's pegged and the snow load.
3) The snow- the dog has clearly left wet prints to and from the tent, but there is only a single set there should be a second set coming from the tent unless it teleported to it's present position, plus you see some wet spots in front of the tent from foot traffic, but the foot prints coming from the bottom left to the tent show no sign of wetness (lower your brightness) and the final kicker, it appears to be snowing heavily in the back ground but there is little snow in front of the dog, nor is there any appreciable amount on it's fur.
I'm sure I could find another 1/2 dozen errors if I tried, like the 3' gap in the smoke plume... but you get the idea
My conclusion, only the dog is real- the rest is a rather poor stitch job
I hope this helps people be more critical of ANY images they see, another big part is how well and how much do you trust the poster, and what are their motives for posting?
