• Happy National Sea Serpent Day! 🌊🐉

Photo of the day

I haven’t figured out the photo orientation problem I’m having. I deleted the ones that for no apparent reason didn’t come out right.

Al, I'm not sure how @kahel turned some of your photos. When I have done it for pictures posted here, I download the photo to my laptop, turn the photo the right way in my photo app, and then upload it back to its original place in the member's post.

What canoe is that in Alaska, a Mad River? Is that the same one that froze full of ice in the winter and blocked your driveway?

How did you do that? I'm not technically savvy. The pics are normal on my lap top and phone so I don't want to change them there and I didn't see a feature to do it on the website.

I download the "incorrectly rotated" image ... open it with my program "XnView" turn it into the right way and safe it.

At Percy Quin State Park on Sunday, Lake Tangipahoa, this was about 2 miles up the river that feeds the lake. I'd guess he was about a 12 footer. He just swam along about 20 yards in front of us while we paddled for probably a 1/4 mile. Then he just slipped below the water and was gone. The north end of the lake has turned into a marsh because of sediment, and I bet we saw 20 different species of birds. It's been a few years since I've been able to go out on the water and I had such a great time.

I'm having the same problem as AL, pic is correct on my phone and iPad, buy comes out like the one I attached.

I don't think anyone is doing anything wrong with their sideways pictures but the reason it happens (looks correct on computer but incorrect when posted on forum) is that when the picture was taken there was a piece of data attached to the picture which tells software the orientation of the shot.

Whatever program you're using on your computer, obviously, is able to read this data and rotates the picture to the correct orientation. The forum software, on the other hand, is not able to read this data correctly so it does not rotate the picture to the correct orientation.

I'm guessing certain phones/cameras embed this information differently and that the forum has issues with certain ones. It's frustrating that the forum does not allow you to change the orientation of the photo but that's just how it is.

The only work around I'm aware of is to manually rotate the photo with other software and then repost.

I'm beginning to think it's not on my end. I tried posting one from my wife's phone last night and got the same bad results.View attachment 148168

I just tried it from my phone and got different results depending on how I uploaded pictures.

If I used the "attach files" button below the text box then my image, which appeared correct on my phone, showed sideways on the forum. But, if I used the 'image' button that is above the text box, where the rest of the editing tools are, then the photo showed the correct orientation.
