Yet another reason canoes are better than kayaks and SUPs

Kayaks are fine. I built a Pygmy sea kayak out of African mahogany. It was over 17 feet and plenty fast. I used to paddle big lakes like Tahoe and Pyramid and some in the salt water in the San Juan Islands of WA.

But where do you put the Coleman stove and the dog? How can you move around? Capsize and it is not good.
I sold the kayak and went back to canoes.

I will confess to owning and enjoying a rec kayak, a Wilderness Systems Aspire 105. It is ridiculously stable, has a retractable skeg so it tracks well, and it is good in windy chop. It is also my loaner boat.

Then again, I've also been known to paddle my solo canoe with a double blade.

I would not take a canoe from Stonington to Isle Au Haut. I do take a kayak. It is common sense. Paddle the craft that fits the environment you are in.

This "argument" is getting stupider and stupider. But I will choose to ignore after this.
