Enjoyed this video about indigenous paddling in Southern California. The use of long double-bladed paddles in particular was interesting (makes sense given the height and width of their boats, which make sense for open water).

 
I watched it too. A lot of it is history and culture. The boat itself appears to be stitched together, but the build isn't explained. The design reminds me of a Umiak (I think) and a dory.
