The forum is having some trouble with image orientation with some pictures that should be vertical posting as horizontal. This seems to be happening when using the "attach files" button below the text box.

Instead, try using the "insert image" icon above the text box as this seems to be orienting pictures correctly. It's the button in the red box in this image:

If these upper buttons are grayed out you may need to click on the brackets to the right side, which toggle the functions on/off. They are in the red square in this image:

I've just researched this issue of pictures being correctly rotated on phone and computers but showing up on the forum incorrectly rotated.

(It's interesting that Alan has discovered that that the problem is more prevalent when using the Attach Image button (paperclip icon) than the Insert Image button (mountain icon). I've always used Insert Image because with that function you can put the image at any place in your text message, not just attached at the end as with the Attach Image function.)

Anyway, this image rotation problem is a known bug in the recent version of Xenforo to which we have been upgraded (version 2.3.7). Xenforo has created a patch to supposedly solve the problem, and I've asked our webmaster, Ken Payne, to investigate this and to install the patch.

For those interested, here's a thread on the bug and patch from the Xenforo forum (where I go to get solutions to most problems):

I'll let everyone know when the patch is installed and we can see if the problem is solved. Meanwhile, perhaps using the Insert Image function will prevent most of the rotation issues.

I've had no problem putting the image anywhere in the post when using the "attach" (paperclip) icon. Just make sure the cursor is wherever you want the image to be when you tell it to "insert"

But does the "attached" image appear full size as an "inserted" image does, and can the image size easily be manipulated as it can be with "inserted" images? Easy enough to test, I suppose.

Yes, you can insert it as full sized. After using the "attach files" (paperclip) option click on either 'thumbnail' or 'full image' to insert it (see screen shot below.

In this post, after typing my full reply, I chose to insert the full image at the very top of the post by placing my cursor there before clicking "full image."

It does not give me any photo editing options after attaching it other than changing the alignment. I can drag the corners to resize it though.

Ken Payne, our webmaster, has just applied the Xenforo image rotation bug patch. I'd appreciate it if members who have had the image rotation problem, such as @lowangle al, @Robin and @Boatman53, would experiment to see if the problem has been solved.

I just ran the same test that failed this morning using 'attach files' (paperclip) and it worked fine for me.

Thanks for getting it resolved!

The image rotation problem is the first noticeable Xenforo bug I can recall in my almost four years of administration. I say "noticeable" because dozens of bugs have been corrected in the several Xenforo releases we have installed, but all of them until the image rotation bug were obscure things deep in the code that didn't really manifest in our daily use of the site.

We actually solved this bug in a matter of hours. Thanks to the members who reported the problem, to Alan Gage, who researched aspects of it, and to our webmaster Ken Payne who installed the already-existing bug patch within an hour after I notified him of it. Glad I was awake to help, too.
