I picked up my Prospector 15 Solo (Expedition Kevlar) from Rutabaga in Madison this afternoon. It was still in the transport cloth when Rutabaga brought it out. It definitely had that nice, new boat smell. Ahhh
I’m a bit of a perfectionist, but this Swift doesn’t have what I would call a flawless exterior finish. As soon as we pulled the cloth I noticed a small, but noticeable, scuff mark type scratch on the all black Carbon Kevlar gunwales. There’s a wee dent that looks like it could have been made by a small rock nailing it during transport. And if you look close, a fair amount of the cloth on the outside hull never sucked in any of the red stain during the molding process. Kind of like they were running low on red stain and sparingly spread it out to make do. I never noticed it on other Swift boats, so I don’t know if that’s common or not. Certainly, nothing major, though.
Stepping back, the boat has a cool tiger stripe like appearance. And overall, it has a dark appearance I suspect will naturally allow it to melt into fall shorelines up here in the Midwest. So with the thin redness that stains the white cloth, the black in the Basalt Innegra definitely makes its presence known and shapes the overall appearance. It reminds me of those dark red autumn leaves. Happy accident? Haha
The boat weighed in at 34 pounds. Carbon Kevlar trim. Standard options. Has the extra layer of Basalt Innegra, though, extra layer added to the Expedition Kevlar Lite layout.
I plan to head out to the Wisconsin River tomorrow for its maiden voyage.
