Hornbeck Guideboat?

A sliding seat will also increase the performance.
That may be true in gneral, but I believe in most races I have seen, such as the Adirondack 90 miler, the guideboat rules include "Seats must be fixed, no rolling seats are allowed."
As opposed to rules for canoes , C4 and voyageur canoes may have gunwale-to-gunwale rolling mid seats to change paddling sides during huts.

I agree with Yknp on the boat being heavy, but I have never rowed one (yet).
I found one of his boats on the beach and salvaged it and it is sitting on my rack waiting for new woodwork. Even with most of the wood rotting or missing it was a heavy boat and without the structural woodwork it was very flexible. It was quite a contrast I still can’t explain.

Actually if anyone wants it and wants to come get it they can have it. I’ll help load it. It is so far down on my to-do list I won’t mind at all.

I build a guideboat with a sliding seat and was afraid the boat would rock back and forth with the weight shifting (it was a short 13’ boat) but it wasn’t a problem. I enjoyed the sliding seat but don’t want one in my Hornbeck. Also for the uninitiated the oar handles cross in the middle, one hand over the other, some have trouble getting used to that.
