Hello all,

I've lurked on this forum for a couple of years. I finally decided it was time to make an official introduction and jump into the conversation. I've learned a lot over these years of lurking, but as I get deeper into paddling, I felt like I needed to get direct contact with veteran paddlers.

My wife and I are originally from SW PA. For the last 11 years we have lived in Texas. We started our family in the Lone Star State, but after the birth of our second baby we decided to move back east and get closer to our families. We currently live in Warren County, PA, near the beautiful Allegheny River.

I've always dabbled in canoeing, but it was always as a means to do/get somewhere else. I never paddled just for the sake of paddling. Growing up, canoeing was associated with other things, like fishing, hunting, trapping, or camping. It wasn't until we did an 80-mile Green River trip in UT that I really fell in love with canoeing as a standalone hobby.

Unfortunately, that Green River trip was the last big multi-day trip my wife and I did because shortly after that we started our family. We've been able to do smaller trips since then, but they are usually just day trips or single overnight trips, and they were mostly in Texas (Brazos River and the Colorado River).

Now that we are back in PA, and surrounded by so many gorgeous rivers, I've found myself thinking more and more about canoeing. I've really started thinking about leaning towards the whitewater aspect of canoeing. I've gone ww rafting several times on the Lower Yough and always have a blast doing it, but I've never been whitewater kayaking. With that being said, outfitting a canoe for ww is something that I'm excited to try.

Anyway, happy to finally be a part of the conversation here. I've posted a couple of photos from various paddles over the last several years.

Welcome, and thanks for posting some photos. I like the lines of that red "Buffalo" boat. It looks like it's loaded to the gills. Is it yours?
Yes it is. We love it. Found it used outside of Austin, TX. A canoe livery was selling a bunch of their boats, so we scooped it up.
