Just came back from a long snowshoe walk in the woods. Beautiful. But I'm ready to paddle!

Still snowing here this morning. I was thinking of heading out for a quick xc ski after lunch but like you, I won't complain when paddling season begins again. That said, I really have enjoyed most of this winter; other than the intense winds. I've gotten in more xc skiing & snowshoeing than I have in many years.

Winter woods are wonderful. Quiet time with a thermos full of soup or tea.
Cowboy coffee brewed over a folding lightweight backpacking wood stove on a cheapie soot stained Stanley pot set.
Nothing but me and the sound of snowflakes delicately crashing down through the bare skeletons of the trees.

That's enchanting if you live where "the woods are lovely, dark and deep." But here's the dirty, messy reality of winter for many folks:

Don’t have a guess on the car, but it’s snowing again in Maine just about an inch/hour by the looks of it. Two inches down and 6 more inches expected.

I'm gonna' say '62 t bird- I only see one door handle and in '63 they added the "bullet" back up light, plus it was one of the last models to have a mild tailfin.

Glenn that stuff all around the car is called snert. We only got about 5”, but enough the cover the snert.

Yeah, I’m in no rush for this wonderful winter to end. I’ve spent more time strapped to skis and snowshoes than I have in many years. It’s replaced my running for most of 2026 so far! And I’ve had 6 great backcountry nights in the beautiful snow as well. Love it!

Before I know it, I’ll be complaining about the heat.

I’m currently stuck in Florida, lazing by the pool, bored to death. Flights are cancelled due to the latest winter storm. I can’t wait to get home to the best snow we’ve had in years. Who knows, maybe there will be enough snowpack to get us out of this drought in time for spring paddle season.

I for one am glad to see @Steve in Idaho posting about snow in SW Idaho because my planned Owyhee trip this May hinges on some more of it!
