With much of the east side access to Wabakimi PP being burned in the TB036 fire, I know at least one outfitter is pushing train & plane access as the best ways to see the park and, if you're frugal like me, the train is far less expensive.

The downside is that the train only runs 2x a week and each train can only haul 6 canoes so, if you're planning a train-in or train-out trip (or both like I am), you might want to get your dates locked in and your tickets bought ASAP.

I checked on 6 dates from early August through early September when I booked my tickets and, while availability was still pretty good, I was not the first canoe booked on 2 of the dates that I checked and I can tell you that the Sept 2nd train already has only 4 spots left. (I did not check anything for Labor Day weekend)

Note: I only checked the westbound trains. They also run eastbound 2x a week and availability of canoe spaces was much better on the westbound trains last year.

You cannot buy canoe tickets online, you must call VIA Customer Service at 1-888/842-7245.

It's helpful if you know the rail subdivision (Wabakimi is in the Allenwater Bridge subdivision)
