Judi and I took our first real trip of the season Sunday into Cod Pond Flow. We weren't sure of the conditions of the ponds at this point so it seemed prudent to go with the flow.

The 1 mile hike in is a snowmobile trail so it varied from snow to rotten snow to ice to mud to perfectly dry trail. You know, Spring.

The flow was clear of course...

but what about the pond?

It too had cleared except in some of the bays where we encountered the Beav.

And who shows up but Mr. Otter, sticking his head up in the left of the photo, checking to find out what all the commotion was...

The 8 beaver dams we encountered were kind

and most we were able to go up over.

We only went to the first carry and turned around.

Really a beautiful day to be out in the boats.

YC, Yup a day trip although there are some nice sites to be found. It's located off of Rt. 8, west of Bakers Mills. There is actually a fun through paddle that ends where we started. It starts with a 2 mile carry to a couple of ponds that then leads to the flow. That's a good full day.

Adk Keith - Is this trip in any of the guidebooks or just something you put together based on local knowledge? It sounds like a nice trip and even possible as a day adventure for me living down near Cooperstown. I'm also curious if the waters are still generally paddleable during the summer months when things get dry. I guess any other information you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...Be well.

Snapper,

No guidebook I know of. I've paddled it all summer and fall. Water depth is never a problem. You just have to get out more often for dams. It's close to home so is one of my favorite day trips. Good moose country too. I'm sure you could zip up there and do a day trip pretty easily.

You are welcome to PM me if you have any specific questions.

What a nice way to welcome in spring, going for a day trip. Awesome seeing the beaver and otter! Thanks Keith.
