I picked up a Yeti 15qt cooler on sale at the hardware store last year and it has been great for day trips. Holds plenty for two people, keeps it cold, and doubles as a nice seat for sitting on gravel bars at lunchtime.

Downside (other than price) is that it’s 14” tall so it sticks above the gunwales in solo boats like the Phoenix. It’s not much, and still works fine but I wouldn’t want it any taller.

I have a an old Coleman I’ve been using for overnights but it’s awfully tall and 54qt is a little big for what I need for overnights with a few people, plus it’s heavy. I’m on the lookout for a new cooler for overnights/multi-days, and I’d like a cooler that doesn’t stick above the gunwales if possible, or at least not much.

Engel seems to make one that’s a 45qt but still only 14” tall (still expensive though). Anyone have experience with that one? What is everyone using for coolers (if you use them)?

For short trips (overnight to a couple of days) I have the Polar Bear 24 Pack Original Nylon Soft Side Cooler. Probably not as well insulated as the new Yetti inspired coolers, but the shape is perfect to fit behind the seat of my Wildfire (and Yellowstone Solo) - you can see the green cooler here:

If stuff goes in cold/frozen and I am careful about opening it, it will keep stuff cold for a couple of days. I would't try to do much longer than that.
