Blue Hole Starburst tandem whitewater tripping canoe for sale. Green/Grey with aluminum gunwales with the original molded plastic, lowered blue hole seats. This canoe is comparable to the Esquif Canyon, Old Town Appalachian. In fact, I think the Esquif Canyon and Old Town Appalachian are deliberate attempts to mimic the Starburst. It's a class III-IV tripping canoe designed by Steve Scarborough that does not sacrifice flatwater speed. (unlike the Dagger Dimension) It's faster than an Old Town Tripper or 17' Grumman and from what I read, it's faster and drier than the Canyon. It's a rounded bottom canoe with a significant amount of rocker so it spins nicely and handles well in whitewater. It's the boat I choose for multi-day trips up to class III-IV rapids. It's a 1990-year model boat still in very good, almost perfect condition as you can see in the photos. Doubtful that you will find another Blue Hole Canoe in this great of shape. Practically zero percent of the vinyl outer layer has been worn off. I’ve replaced all the old decals with new ones that I feel are of better quality and more durable than the old ones installed by Blue Hole. The original decals have no UV protection that is why they are all faded and peeling off. All these new decals have UV protection. This boat is a survivor! A true barn find! I am only selling it because my collection of boats is getting out of hand and I need to thin the herd. I know that my asking price might seem high at first, but I know how valuable these old royalex boats are, especially in this great of shape! T-Formex is the new invention to replace royalex in the canoe industry and who knows how well it will hold up. However, we all know how the royalex performs! I think this boat is well worth my asking price of $3K. Happy Paddling to you all! Reviews and ReputationThe Blue Hole Starburst is a legendary, out-of-production tandem whitewater canoe known for its exceptional river running abilities and durable Royalex material. It is highly regarded by enthusiasts and described as a "dry" and fast boat with excellent secondary stability. The Blue Hole Starburst has a strong reputation in the paddling community, with some experts recommending that if you find a used one for sale in decent condition, you should buy it. • Whitewater Performance: Reviewers praise it for running rapids drier than many other canoes and being very responsive in moving water. It has been run down challenging rivers like the Westwater and Cataract.• Stability: While its rounded hull is designed for maneuverability, its overall stability is considered excellent, particularly the secondary stability (stability when leaned).• Versatility: Although primarily a whitewater boat, it is also noted as a fantastic river fishing and family canoe, capable of carrying significant gear for multi-day camping trips.• Durability: The thick Royalex hull makes the canoe tough and resilient, earning Blue Hole canoes a reputation as the "jeeps" of canoes. AvailabilityAs Blue Hole Canoe Company ceased original production in 1990, the Starburst model is only available on the used market. Used canoes occasionally appear for sale in online forums and social media groups dedicated to canoeing enthusiasts and vintage boats. Prices for used models can vary greatly depending on condition and age, with some in "perfect condition" bringing more than the new canoes on the market.
