Took a quick (4 days, 3 nights) trip into Ram Lake just off the Gunflint trail the last weekend of September. Ram lake is a stocked rainbow trout lake and also has lake trout in it. Usually go after some trout at the end of September because often they have moved up shallow as the water cools and in MN the lake trout season ends on 9/30. Kinda knew that this year they would be deeper as there hasn't been a lot of cool nights yet. They were deeper and harder to find but we managed to catch a few and had a nice relaxing weekend.

Didn't do any portaging except into the lake. The weather was good, especially calm the first 2 and a half days, full moon (we left the day of the eclipse) and no rain other than some mist and fog at times. Did some grouse hunting, managed to shoot one and get a lot of good tromping through the woods in. Found an old fire escape trail and followed that up to a great point looking out over the lake.

I've just started working with a new cloud photo software and storage and it says I can let you all in with this link: http://adobe.ly/1PbJyXI

Let me know if the link works or not.

Whoever posted the idea of taking your Katadyn base camp water filter and using a Sawyer filter with it awhile back, thanks! The conversion was easy, worked great and will save a lot of $$'s. Also, one of the pics shows the cut out in an oval shape of the 40"X80" foam pad I was experimenting with in my hammock. It worked great, I took a 1/2" and 5/8" to compare and liked the 1/2 inch better, it is now my go to option for my hammock.

The photo links work fine, thanks for those. Looks like a nice weekend! How did you cook up the grouse?

The grouse was slow cooked over the coals along with some trout - fish & fowl made for a great supper!

Hoping Robin doesn't kick me off the site for having an aluminum canoe in the pics!!

Thanks for the report. And hey, aluminum canoe is better than no canoe! I actually enjoy taking my dad out in his 17' grumman. Spraying some auto body undercoating where your feet go helps with the noise.

Thanks for the photos. Looks like a great trip. I appreciate seeing BWCA photos being so far away in central NYS. I've only been there a couple of times but can't wait to get back. Thanks for feeding the fever.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.
