I’d love to hear impressions about the Allanwater River between the RR and Wabakimi Lake, if anyone here has experience. I have the maps, trip reports (which are tough to correlate), and it seems a viable route, but first hand experience is always helpful. YouTube videos are interesting but not very helpful in a technical sense.

Kahel,
Saw two of the three. Got a WW technical report? 😉

Just learned my dog can’t ride the train June-September. I might be going truly solo. It will break my heart to leave him. I’ll have to make it up to the old boy. He’s having ACL surgery next week. 8 weeks in a cage, on a leash.

Probably not relevant to your possible trip, but in 2017 a buddy and I traveled south from the railroad to the Kashisibog and Kopka rivers and on the Lake Nipigon. The Allanwater south of the railroad is not too exciting - in my trip journal I noted for "endless days of paddling endless lakes".The only place we encountered any noticeable current while paddling upstream going south was at a few constricted spots, otherwise it was kind of dull. We took the train (3-4 hours late arriving in Armstrong, which was typical) from Armstrong (was a night train at that time) to Allanwater Bridge and stayed at Johnny Jelinski's Allanwater Resort for about 4-5 hours of sleep before starting our trip. Slow start to a great trip.
