ADK day trip details

So not to clutter up other threads, here's some info about a few ADK day trips.

Boreas Ponds, certainly well discussed and documented here, but for the curious, here's MDB on Boreas Pond along with a simulated view from CalTopo. Hopefully, you can read the labels on the varoius peaks.







I mentioned Duck Hole via the Prestons and Henderson Lake.
Here's a few peeks at this one with my son and his buddy when they were both 14 years old

A view from Henderson towards Indian Pass



Carrying from Henderson to Upper Preston is 1.8 miles, practically a bargain compared to hiking all the way to Duck Hole




Except that the trail is not exactly canoe carry friendly



And a seldom seen spot where Lower Preston outlet dumps directly into Duck Hole, BTW, that's also the carry route



What else...Oh yeah, Lake Lila.

Long gone is the great camp Nehasne. Visitors today would have no idea that such a grand structure ever even existed.









But, here's a look at the train station that's now nearly gone, and the tracks which were repaired many years ago





Here's a look at the carry to Harrington Pond



Great beaches all around, this is near the old lodge site, right next to the tennis courts

Continuing the theme of ADK day trips, here's the Boreas River.

Starting on Cheney Pond



Across the pond to the outlet, then on to the Boreas River, roughly 6 crow miles downstream from Boreas Ponds




Then downstream on the Boreas, views keep improving



After the old Lester Dam, it's a roll of the dice WRT water levels. Some Class II stuff, a few rock gardens, a small gorge or two. No trails til the take out at Rt28N
















All in all a fun little trip. If you stay at Lake Harris, you can be back to the campsite for dinner, including a shuttle run. Might be able to do the same from Lake Eaton.
