    Kevlar degradation

Is there a way to tell the condition of the Kevlar on an old (1979) Wenonah? I'm referring specifically to UV damage. Overall, there are not a lot of scratches or dings. But, I wonder if the Kevlar has become too brittle to bother restoring.

Is this a Wenonah Jensen 18?

Hi all. Yesterday a friend gave me a Wenonah tandem, that was given to him. He didn't seem to know much about it, other than to say he thought it was seaworthy. I could use your help in identifying it. According to the hand engraved model number on the gunwale, it is a model BJ, built January...

    Placid Boatworks layup

Yellowcanoe, I have spoken to Joe and he assured me that the Ultra was plenty rugged. I am just looking for comments from owners based on their personal experience. Joe seems like a great guy and I have no reason to doubt him. Just thought it prudent to seek additional opinions in an effort to...

    Placid Boatworks layup

Ha! You guys are funny. Had I written PB&J, I'd be more inclined to agree with you. Nevertheless, in the interest of clairity, the title has been edited. Though crowd! Lol. Fuzz

    Placid Boatworks layup

Can anyone speak to the durability of the Placid Boatworks XLT Ultra as compared to the Cobra XLT? Thinking about a Rapidfire and not sure which way to go. Thanks Fuzz

    Wenonah/Oscoda 14' solo

No Title Well folks once again you have responded with spot-on information. Thank you! I paddled the boat this evening and in fact, it is not a 14' Wenonah/Oscoda solo as it was advertised. But, you already knew that. Rather, it was a 13'-2" Sawyer/Oscoda '86 Solo. Nice boat, in good shape...

    Wenonah/Oscoda 14' solo

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the Wenonah/Oscoda 14' solo? My understanding is that is a DY design, in fiberglass. Perhaps 20 years old. Thx. Fuzz

    Hello from upstate NY

Hey, you guys are great! Snapper - Thanks for the welcome and the invite. The Susquehanna River valley is beautiful from the seat of a motorcycle. I bet it's spectacular from the seat of a canoe. Perhaps one day soon. Yellowcanoe - I'm sure you are right either way. I know the pricey, hi tech...

    Hello from upstate NY

Thanks for all the info! I have been planning to attend the Saratoga Paddlefest and perhaps the one in Old Forge as well. Based on the research that I've done and my novice perception of what may work for me, I'm attracted to the Swift Keewaydin 14 or 15. Although I must say, the idea of...

    Lower back issues

Ok, here's one for all of you "senior" paddlers. In my very limited experience paddling canoes, I have always found paddling from a seated tandem seat to be very hard on my back. Hence the reason I purchased a kayak. With the latter, I use more upper body strength as opposed to lower back...

    Hello from upstate NY

Thanks to all for the warm welcome and the invites. Stripperguy - I'm a newbie. I own a 12' Wilderness Systems Tsunami kayak that I use on some local lakes for fun and fishing, but by no means would I refer to myself as a paddler. For the past few years my wife and I have camped on the island...

    Hello from upstate NY

Just a quick hello from an old guy whith an itch to spend more time in the outdoors. Specifically, the Adirondacks. I'll be retiring on May 1st and plan on pursuing my developing interest in solo canoe tripping. I'm happy to have discovered this group and hope to learn from your collective...
