    New Rain jacket?

Kokatat Full Zip jacket. Beautifully crafted in the USA. Love all of our Kokatat Gore Tex gear: dry suit, paddling jacket, full zip jacket, boater pants, zephyr pants. We don't really consider any other brands.

    Film canister alternatives

I like the Nalgene bottles of all sizes. The Lexan ones are the only ones I now use. Spices, oil, salt, rehydrating meals in the pack during day, water, etc. They have worked without fail and clean up great by hand or in the dish washer.

    Chilli con Canoetripping

I have had the Excalibur 9 tray model for many years without any problems. I have and used other models but the Excalibur is worth every penny. The trays are easy to clean and the consistancy of drying in the different levels is very good. We use ours to make yogurt with the trays removed...

    Chilli con Canoetripping

We regularly use the dehydrator. It makes it much easier for us to prepare meals and ingredients every week or so rather than trying to get it done in one marathon session. That way we are usually surprised at how much we have ready to go for our trips or impromptu getaways. We can easily put...

    Canoeing gloves or mitts?

Atlas Temres 282 breathable, insulated and waterproof glove. These work well for cool to cold weather. They actually do seem to breathe fairly well. With extended use they do get damp inside and need to be dried. The dry quickly. The lining is attached but could be cut out and a separate...

    Very interesting cart design

I am not in the market for a canoe cart at this time. However, I came across this Inkas Brand cart and it is very intriguing. Some on here might find it interesting or get the creative juices flowing. I know there are tons of different ones available...

Banks Fry-Bake Deep Dish version of the Alpine Pan and additions

Sure! Fresh ingredients described here, have never made it with dehydrated materials but it could be done and not need to be baked, just rehydrated. Brown some cut up cut of beef you like or have on hand or purchase stew meat, right in the baking container. If you like onions and/or garlic, put...

Banks Fry-Bake Deep Dish version of the Alpine Pan and additions

As far as baked recipes, we have made fresh and frozen lasagna, baked fish, citrus chicken, beef stew, chicken and rice, muffins, corn bread, etc. With the deep dish style it should work much better to prevent burning the top when the pan is full. It would also be great for the minimalist who...

Canoe Packs for the solo tripper

As a variation of the take-apart pack, I have been thinking about a different arrangement to allow for a single pack to portage but still allow for two packs to trim the canoe. You would still use your full size canoe pack. An insert to fit inside the top half of the portage pack would have to...

Banks Fry-Bake Deep Dish version of the Alpine Pan and additions

I just got the new Banks Fry-Bake Alpine size pan in the deep dish version and a standard weight NOLS style lid. I have used the regular Alpine pan with the standard lid for many years and have loved it. We often make popcorn in the pan because of the hard anodized aluminum really distributes...

    BWCA West Sept. 14-24

Thanks everyone. There were crowds on those lakes only the lakes a few portages in from an entry point. They should have thinned out significantly by now. Off to Birch Lake on the Kawishiwi River for a week with the kayaks.

SealLine Seal Pak Waterproof Hip Pack

This is a review for the SealLine Seal Pack Waterproof Hip Pack used as a bow bag in a Wenonah MN II. We modified this pack by putting a 1/8" shock cord toggle on the two d-rings that are on the bag. This toggle wraps around the front carrying handle. It works well for the bow person's ( my...

    PFD Pocket For Portage Pack

We had good luck with this PFD Pocket that we attached to the back of one of our portage packs. At the portage, we used it to put in our life jackets, map case, and small bow bag. It really helped to keep our hands free on the portages. However, it did tend to pull back on the person doing the...

    Paddle Bag

I thought some folks might be interested in this paddle bag arrangement we came up with. At home it is a storage bag for our two paddles and the spare. It is also nice for travel. During a trip it works very well on the portage and on the water. On the water, it stores the spare and my...
