Please note that this site from its founding in 2011 has been kept financially alive solely by virtue of voluntary member donations during fund drives, which used to take place annually. There never have been any ads or required dues here.

After our last fund drive one year ago, I stated that we could probably go without another fund drive for three years, until November 2026, if folks were generous enough.

You were.

At the conclusion of that fund drive, I suggested that you all save $15 a year for the next three years so that you would have $45 to contribute in November 2026 to fund the site for another three years. In other words, we need about 80 people to contribute the equivalent of $15 per year to keep this site comfortably afloat.

I'm not asking for any money now, and won't until the fund drive two years from now. This is just a reminder to save $15 a year. I'm now not sure moving away from annual fund drives was the right decision, but we'll stick with that program and hope enough of you will be around in two years.

Thanks for your attention.

a) what's your address again?
b) was that a ferrous or nonferrous cash container?
c) was it just 15 bucks or do you invest all your important savings in the backyard?

It was just Glenn's $15. I wanted to keep it separate from the rest of my money so I didn't inadvertently spend it.

The bulk of my savings is buried in the front yard where I can better keep an eye on it.

I'd be happy to send something now rather than go digging in my yard again. 4-legged creatures do that for me now. The city squirrels raid the tulip bulbs, the family dog(s) dig just because, and wildlife burrow towards the unknown. I've let my urban yard "go", mostly as an effort to bring the bug life back (which has worked wonderfully) but also to set me apart from the rest of somnolent suburbia. I don't know, did I already bury money in the backyard? How much? Where? And how much? Mostly, WTF was I thinking? Oh yeah, I remember. It is Glenn's fault!

Good for you! That's gotta be kinda tough when you have neighbors. Thankfully I live out of town and haven't mowed my yard in years. It's much more interesting that way and fun to see the plants that show up.

I have another piece of land where I hope to build a house someday and so far have seeded a little over an acre to native prairie. Hopefully another acre or more next year. It's a lot of work but very rewarding.

You back yard buriers, keep in mind that I'm a clean living guy who can't accept "dirty money." So . . . please launder it first.

(Especially Odyssey, who actually mails simoleons.)

I hear if you bury a two blade over top the money people stop digging and leave in disgust. Do what you will with that information.

Save $15 a year, 🤣. I’ll just have to eat beans and ramen for a week when the time comes.

Kudos to the folks rewilding their yards! Ecologist Doug Tallamy had an impressive statistic, which I'll attempt to paraphrase with moderate accuracy - the acreage of lawn in the US exceeds the acreage of just about all the national parks put together.

And kudos to Glenn for keeping the lights on so we can enjoy interesting discussion and some tomfoolery. $1.25/mon is a heck of a good value for CT. For what it's worth, I'm just as happy to give you $15 a year, that way I don't have to remember where I buried it.

I'm am going to save $20 per year to compensate Glenn for my inability to use a proper heading on my posts.

Seriously, I commend you in a huge way for doing this. I couldn't do it if my life depended on it, plus I don't have the patience to deal with people like me. A hearty THANK YOU to you and Alan for making this site informative and seamless to use.

Hi Pikachu! it's been a minute since we've had a spammer hack his way in. @Glenn MacGrady 's on vacation til Thurs but he'll probably blast you back to the nethersphere at that time (If @Alan Gage doesn't get you 1st). In the meantime, I guess you could make your case for retention.

Glenn likes people who start threads so that might help. Probably best if you keep them related to canoes, canoeing and the exclusive use of single bladed (actual CANOE) paddles. Throw in a picture of your puppy (or goat) in a boat and you might just make it.

No worries if you don't... he'll have to blast this post along with yours or it won't make sense to future searchers.

Headed for work now, I don't expect to see you after so take care.

that's got to be the most polite response to a spammer I've ever seen, most of mine get taken down for an extreme amount of profanities and requests to know which female dog procreated them... :p

No, worries. Since you quoted the (now deleted) post in your response it should make sense to future generations mining this website for treasures so I'm going to leave it up.
