    Solo Seat Position

Glenn MacGrady , My own empirical evidence says I've had pretty good control. Also, I wasn't referring to a b*st*rdized tandem. I was saying that there would be a load in addition to a paddler (who is me, solo).

Testing it out in the water-- that's a pretty sensible idea...

That strap idea is fascinating. Haven't seen that before.

    Solo Seat Position

Hello all, I've recently decided on my next build - John Winter's Osprey. I'm planning on positioning the seat more towards the stern than I've seen it in pictures of the boat. Here's my reasoning: I've done most of my soloing from tandem canoes sitting in the bow seat. That places me more...

    How Much Dough

I don't know the total cost of my canoe gear. It's also kind of hard to separate what is canoe gear from what is just the things I've purchased for myself that I enjoy. EG - hiking boots - definitely get used for canoeing purposes, but I also enjoy hiking on the weekends. Here's roughly...

    Recommended Canoe Documentary

I would like to recommend you all find a way to watch: The Passage by Day's Edge Productions. It is easily found by a youtube search. This is without a doubt my favorite canoeing documentary. It has it all: An epic adventure, cedar strip construction (I am a cedar strip paddler myself)...

What do you think I should do?

Glad to hear they made it right, and your trip won't be impacted. I'm sure Northstar wouldn't want this audience to hear to they didn't make it right.

1984 Mad River Explorer back in the shop

I have what I would guess is a 1986 or 1987 Mad River Explorer. It has served me well for quite some time, an amazing canoe, passed down to me from my father. I have dared rocks to do their worst, and they come up empty. I like the bungee handles. That is something I haven't seen before that...

Braving It - By James Campbell

The adventure of a father and his teenage daughter in the Alaskan wilderness. I forget the mileage they cover, but they take on a long hike, and then assemble pack boats to finish the route up to Arctic Ocean. Polar bears, grizzly bears, clouds of bugs, cold water. What more could you ask for...
