Inquiry for the Professionals about a Rowing Rig Kit

I just purchased it an old town 174 Discovery in great condition. I needed it for a river trip with my family. I ended up purchasing the boat from a great couple whose son rowed at LSU. There is a piantedosi dual rowing kit that has the feet pedals, drop in seats, and everything else. The couple that sold it told me that the kit is probably pretty valuable. How much do one of these things go for? Should I install it on a new canoe that is brand new and sell it that way or should I just sell the rig. Where in the hell would I actually sell this rig. I didn't see anything online, it seems pretty difficult to get your hands on one of these.

The vast majority of canoeists don't try to row their canoes with a rowing rig. But I did early in my canoe career with a DIY rig a few times, so there could be some niche interest. I personally know nothing about commercial rowing rigs or what they cost. If your rig can be used in a canoe, you are free to advertise it in our Classifieds forum. Other outlets include Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.

Looks like it is around $1300 for basic kit, with add ons up to $2000.00 US, so like a million bucks Canadian. Sell it and buy a second canoe.

They are rare but the demand is exceptionally low so you probably don't want to hold out for a high price. Sell the rig alone and keep the canoe. Your best bet would probably be a rowing site like https://www.row2k.com/classifieds/ or something similar. Similar rigs like the one at https://www.ebay.com/itm/114768472988 show up occasionally for a few hundred dollars. Good luck,

Years ago when I worked at a BSA camp waterfront, I put a rowing rig on one of our canoes for evening patrols of the lake. The lake was a mile long and I would use those oars to get me to places while patrolling a lot faster than I could have with just a straight paddle in an old Grumman tandem canoe. I haven't thought about that in a long time but this thread brought back some wonderful memories. Thanks!
